Dentures in Salina, KS

When multiple teeth are missing, speech, chewing, and self-confidence issues can occur and the chance of additional tooth loss is increased. Dentures can be either removable, or secured in the mouth with dental implants.

What are Dentures?

There are different types of dentures that are appropriate for different people and situations.

Removable Partial Dentures are designed for patients who are missing one or more teeth. They are created out of acrylic or a metal and acrylic composite. Fixed Partial Dentures are also known as bridges, and can be attached to adjacent teeth or held in place with dental implants.

Conventional Full Dentures are what most people think of when they hear the word “dentures”. They are designed for patient who are completely edentulous (toothless) in one or both arches. Lower dentures are horseshoe shaped to allow freedom of movement of the tongue; upper dentures have a plate that covers the soft palate (roof of the mouth). These kinds of dentures are typically kept from “floating” with denture adhesive, and are lined with a soft material that conforms to the patient’s mouth.

Implant Supported Dentures can consist of partial or full dentures that snap into place over dental implants, often with a ball and joint configuration. This prevents bone loss in the jaw and preserves the facial contours. Immediate Dentures are typically reserved for patients who have lost teeth suddenly to trauma, or who have just had their teeth extracted and don’t want to have to go without teeth for any period of time.

Benefits of Dentures

Benefits to denture wearers include physical, practical, emotional, and psychological benefits, including:

  • The ability to speak and smile without reservation
  • The ability to return to foods that are enjoyable, and to chew normally
  • The ability to enjoy their appearance, thanks to fuller features and a natural smile
  • Better self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-image

The Denture Process

The process to obtain dentures will vary widely based on the type of denture recommended by your dentist and the process required to create and place the denture. Your dentist will discuss all of your options with you. At New Horizons, we specialize in implant supported dentures for comfort, convenience, esthetics, and bone preservation.
